The Buffalo Bills ended their Week 1 victory in Josh Allen’s fashion, filled with exciting moments and a subtle reminder of how great the 2024 MVP is. Josh Allen proved his MVP style of play once again against the Baltimore Ravens in a 40-41 victory in Week 1. Allen had 33/46 pass attempts for 394 yards while adding 40 yards on the ground and 2 rushing TDs alongside 2 passing TDs for a total of 4 to complete the comeback win.
Fantasy managers should feel good after Allen’s Week 1 performance. With a healthy crew of receivers to target, Allen should provide enough owners with volume and red-zone opportunities this season.
Bills WR Keon Coleman led all Bills receivers with 8 receptions for 112 yards and 1 touchdown. Coleman was Allen’s favorite target in Week 1 and should continue to see enough volume despite the presence of Khalil Shakir, who ended his night with a modest 6 receptions for 64 yards, and TE Dalton Kincaid, 4 receptions for 48 yards.
James Cook’s Week 1 performance was decent, but fantasy managers would like to see better efficiency than 48 rushing yards on 13 carries. Cook remains the lead back for the Bills, so he’ll look to bounce back against a stout Jets defense front in Week 2.
The New York Jets began their season with several question marks and new faces on the team now that veteran Aaron Rodgers is donning black and yellow with the Steelers. The addition of new head coach Aaron Glenn was a smart move by the Jets’ front office. Glenn plays an aggressive style of football, as seen with his time in Detroit as defensive coordinator.
Justin Fields and the Jets faced off against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on Sunday afternoon despite losing by two in a 34-32 final score. The Jets’ new QB, Justin Fields, played flawlessly against his former team, completing 16 passes on 23 attempts for 218 yards and a touchdown. Fields also ran for an additional 48 rushing yards and two touchdowns to end his impressive debut. Fantasy managers who took a risk on Fields were rewarded handsomely, seeing the young QB handle the Jets offense with ease.
RB Breece Hall also impressed fantasy managers in his electrifying performance against the Steelers despite a down year in 2024. Hall rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries and had 2 receptions for 48 yards. Although Hall did not reach the end zone on Sunday, fantasy managers can breathe easy for now, knowing Hall remains the top choice in Aaron Glenn’s scheme regardless of Braelen Allen’s presence.
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson returned to elite form as his on-field chemistry with Justin Fields set the tone early in the game. Wilson finished his afternoon with 7 catches, 95 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown against a weak Steelers secondary. Wilson averaged a healthy 13.5 yards per catch, reassuring fantasy managers that there’s plenty of volume and redzone opportunities this season.
The Jets failed to take off against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, but Jets fans should feel excited for their team. With a competent head coach in Aaron Glenn as well as a youthful and talented roster, the Jets are eager to surprise many teams this year. The Jets will welcome Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 in another exciting matchup on Sunday.
Brian Daboll and the Giants lost in Week 1 to the Washington Commanders in an embarrassing blowout score of 6-21. Daniel Jones is no longer the go-to punching bag for fans, but it seems Russell Wilson is eager to fill the role. Wilson capped his season debut with the New York Giants with 17 pass completions on 37 attempts, with 167 passing yards and no touchdowns.
Wilson also had 8 carries for 44 yards to finish the unimpressive outing for Big Blue. Although the offensive line for the Giants has been improved in recent years, Russell Wilson’s untimely passes and knack for holding onto the ball exposed Wilson’s level of focus. Giants second-year receiver Malik Nabers was less than excited to be part of an embarrassing display of professional football.
Fantasy managers who drafted Nabers in the 1st round, hoping for another stellar year, may need to keep their expectations low and have a wait-and-see approach. Nabers finished the Week 1 with 71 yards on 5 receptions and no touchdowns, while seemingly showing signs of frustration due to a lack of targets and inaccurate passes. Nabers’ elite skill set as a receiver will continue to be limited unless Giants QB Russell Wilson begins to make accurate passes.
Giants RB is less desirable at the moment, as Tyrone Tracy Jr. owners were less than thrilled watching him average 2.3 yards for each carry. Tracy is the clear lead back in the 3-man committee, but his 10 carries for 24 yards in Week 1 will need to improve. The Giants will face off against NFC East rivals, Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.
