The New York Mets win 6-5 in extra innings. 1st baseman Pete Alonso had a monster game against the Marlins going 3-4, , 2 doubles, 1 Walk, 1 HR, 4 RBI’s. The “Polar Bear” was agressive at the plate and tough to put away on Wednsday afternoon. Alonso gave his team an early lead in 1st inning hitting a perfectly timed double that allowed Juan Soto to score a run. Alonso took advantage of another opportunity at the plate being down 1-4 in the 8th inning fouling off several knee bending pitches against right handed pitcher Calvin Fauchner. Alonso battled the entire at bat seeing a total of 9 pitches from Fauchner leading to bases clearing 3-run HomeRun over the center field wall.
Alonso was locked in at the plate in the 3 game set vs the Marlins (.417 batting average, 2 HR, and 8 RBIs) the veteran power hitter is notorious to begin the seasons with great at-bats. The Mets expect Alonso to drive in plenty of runs batting behind Juan Soto and his performance in the series vs Miami could be an indication of a monster offensive season for the Polar Bear. MLB fantasy managers who were lucky enough to grab the 1st baseman in their drafts should be content knowing Alonso seems to have returned to vintage form early in the season.
The Mets were able to score 2 more runs vs the Marlins in the 11th inning with a bases loaded walk by Jesse Winker. The Mets scored another run off a Mark Vientos grounder that was bobbled by Diamondbacks SS Xavier Edwards. Pete Alonso and the Mets finally head home to Citi Field in Queens in their home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday April 4th.
