The New York Yankees hosted the Arizona Diamonbacks in the Bronx on Tuesday losing 7-5. The Bronx Bombers hit a total of 3 home runs in last night’s game but the bats were cooled off a bit by the Diamondbacks pitching.
Yankees rookie pitcher Will Warren had a solid debut in the Bronx with 5.0 IP, 1 Hit, 4 BB, 2 ER, 4 strikeouts. Warren was able to keep the Diamondbacks’ lineup in check for the majority of the game. Warren missed his location on a pitch to Diamondbacks OF Corbin Carroll, giving up a 2-run home run to right field.
Despite the mistake, Warren’s performance was inspiring as he was able to settle in nicely without allowing a hit the rest of the night on the mound. Warren’s first start as a Yankee was outstanding, given that he faced a tough Diamondbacks lineup. The pitcher exited the game with the Yankees leading 4-2 putting him in line to receive his 1st win on the season.
The cards fell for the Yankees in the 8th inning, however, as bullpen reliever Mark Leiter Jr. unfortunately did not have the best command or focus on the mound (0.1 IP, 2 BB, 1 strikeout, 1 H), giving up a Grand Slam to Arizona’s 3rd baseman Eugenio Suárez.
