The New York Mets disappeared in Saturday afternoon game against the Astros. Mets’ Jose Siri (1-2, 1 BB) scored 1 run on Soto’s (1-3, double, 1 RBI, BB) ground out to 2nd base to put the Mets on the board. Jose Siri’s speed was on display as early as he ran for home in what was considered a risky move. Siri’s love for baseball is unmatched and combined with his quick intuition continues to add value for the Mets.

Juan Soto was the only Mets player with a hit against the Astros, a double off the left field wall. The New York Mets have started the season playing sluggish at the plate but Juan Soto with the Mets has been stellar. In 9 at-bats, Soto has 1 HR, 2BB, .333 BA, 1.316 OPS. Fantasy Managers should feel content with their investment in Juan Soto, the slugger remains a lock in the lineup against the Marlins on Monday.

Big-name SS Francisco Lindor in the opening series with the Houston Astros has been an eye-sore to watch, Lindor is 0-11, 3 Ks, 1 RBI. The New York Mets expect more from their star switch-hitting infielder as Lindor has looked impatient at the plate to begin the season. Lindor is a notoriously slow starter in his career stating “I’ve got to do a way better job to be on base and make things happen.” Fantasy managers are sweating over Lindor’s sluggish at-bats to start but should continue to start the veteran for the time being as he is a constant threat to steal and score runs.

Right-handed starter Griffin Canning made his Mets debut on Saturday pitching 5.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, 4Ks, 2BB. Canning pitched well despite giving up a run in the 5th inning, then another in the 6th. The New York Mets offense could not bail out Canning’s valiant efforts on the mound. The Mets do not expect injured players like Sean Manaea (strained right oblique) to return at the end of April with Frankie Montas (high-grade right lateral strain) until early June.

The Mets have pitched well regardless of their injuries, the bullpen in particular has been impressive so far to start the 2025 season. In the opening series with the Astros, the Mets bullpen has pitched 9.2 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 0 ER, 6 BB, 9Ks, and 0 HRs, while posting a perfect 0.00 ERA. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza likes what he has seen from his club as far as team chemistry. Although the Mets lost their series opener against Houston, Mendoza states his team must “fight through adversity.” The New York Mets will face the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park on Monday at 6:40 ET.
