New York Mets manager Javier Mendoza handed the ball to right-hander Tylor Megillin in game 2 of Opening Week. Megill shut down the Houston Astros’ offense, pitching 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run, striking out 6 times. Megill mixed his pitches well, despite giving up a run due to a sacrifice fly by lefty Yordan Alvarez. LF Jose Altuve had a good game, going 2-3 at the plate, with 2 singles and a walk. Still, Tylor Megill and the New York Mets’ bullpen were able to get the win.

New York Mets 3B Mark Vientos went 1-4, hitting a screaming double to left field, allowing Brandon Nimmo to score the Mets’ first run. Followed by a single to center field by Jesse Winker 1-3 to allow Vientos to score the Mets’ second run of the game. Superstar Juan Soto added to the Mets’ 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning, taking Houston Astros Pitcher Hunter Brown to the second deck of Minute Maid Park. A moonshot by Soto left the Houston crowd stunned as they gazed at the Mets’ new offensive weapon.

Juan Soto showcased why his talents have given him the largest contract in MLB history. Fantasy managers who drafted Soto should feel pleased early on with his performance despite going 1-3 with a walk against Houston. I’m sure better days are ahead for the left-handed hitter. The New York Mets’ SS Francisco Lindor had a night to forget, going 0-3, and hopes to bounce back in the next game.

The New York Mets’ 9th inning closer Edwin Diaz avoided any exciting moments by not giving up a hit and striking out 1 for the save. The Mets’ bullpen pitcher Reed Garrett pitched 1.0 innings, walking 1 batter, and striking out 2, with 0 runs allowed. A.J. Minter also saw action for 1.0 inning, walking 1 and striking out 1. Ryne Stanek held the Astros to 0 runs, walking 1 batter. The Mets played a clean game and look to take their 1st series against the Astros on Saturday, March 29.
