The New York Giants announced Tuesday afternoon that they had agreed with QB Russell Wilson to a 1-year, 21 million contract for the 2025 season. The NY Giants also agreed to a 2-year, $8 million deal with QB Jameis Winston a few days prior. The Giants ended the 2024 season finishing 4th in the NFC East.
Division rivals Philadelphia Eagles are fresh off a Super Bowl win, and other rivals such as the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders have improved drastically in the last 2 years. Former Giants QB Daniel Jones was released by the Giants after the QB fell out of favor due to his performance on the field and injury history. Head Coach Brian Daboll benched Jones after their Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Jones’ 2 Ints, 0 Touchdowns, and 190 passing yards performance in Week 10 would ultimately conclude the former 1st round 2019 draft pick time as Giants QB. Jones simply failed to live up to expectations, which forced Giants HC Brian Daboll to shift his focus towards backup QB Tommy DeVito.
In signing Russell Wilson to a $21 million contract, one can assume he would be the QB1 for the Giants. With Jameis Winston also in the mix after signing an $8 million deal, his playing time on the Giants roster is also vital. Both player finished their 2024 season campaigns with respectable statistical performances. Russell Wilson donning the Black and Yellow on the Pittsburgh Steelers finished the season with 2,482 passing yards, completing 63% of his attempts, 16 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.
Giants teammate Jameis Winston donning the orange and Brown on the Cleveland Browns ended his season with 2,121 passing yards, completing 61% of his attempts, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Both QBs have similar offensive numbers, but ultimately, it will be fun to watch both of these guys take reps together once the 2025 NFL training camp and preseason kick off.
